Here are some suggestions for coordinating transportation to the February 18 town hall discussion in Anacortes. See below for ways to help provide a ride or to take advantage of someone else's car.
When: Saturday, February 18, 2012
Location: Anacortes Senior Center – Great Room, 1701 22nd Street
If you'd rather not drive on the ferry, there will be several folks who will have space in their vehicles to get you between the Anacortes dock and the meeting at the Senior Center.
From Friday Harbor:
8:00 sailing arrives 9:05, probably return on 1:25 arriving 2:30
8:50 sailing arrives 9:55, probably return on 1:50 arriving 3:20
7:30 sailing arrives 8:40, probably return on 1:50 arriving 3:00
9:15 sailing arrives 9:55, probably return on 1:50 arriving 2:40
IF YOU ARE DRIVING (via ferry OR from mainland) AND CAN TAKE MORE PASSENGERS:
Feel free to fill your car with any friends you find (or make) en route. But if you still have room when you arrive in Anacortes, pull into the parking lot near the terminal - the one with the small parking kiosk - and park in one of the loading zone spaces near the terminal building. Place a paper on your dash or windshield saying "NCA" or just look friendly. We're asking folks needing a ride to show up there. Feel free to drive to the meeting when full or if the walk-off traffic has ended.
If you are a mainland driver with extra room, see if you can meet one of the key arrival times (9:05 and 9:55).
IF YOUR ARE WALKING ON THE FERRY AND NEED A RIDE:
If you can hitch a ride with a friend, please do. If not, just head past the terminal building in Anacortes and into the public/pay parking area on the right, where the small kiosk with the parking attendant is located. There are several loading zone parking places in the corner closest to the dock. We've asked people with extra space in their cars to look for passengers there. Look for a friendly looking face or a car with an "NCA" sign on their dash or windshield. We will make sure there is at least one car meeting each of the 8:40, 9:05 and 9:55 arrivals. If you are on one of those boats but can't find a car with enough room, call 206-310-9335 (cell) and we'll send another car to the dock.
We'll try to make sure nobody gets stranded at the meeting afterward. The same cell phone should work in case of emergency.
Of course there is also the public transit option. I'm told that SKAT route 410 with a transfer to 49 works for getting from ferry to near the Senior Center. Buses leave the ferry dock at 9:08 and 10:08. Take SKAT 410 and transfer to SKAT 49 at 10th and Q (23/25 minutes past the hour). Ask driver to stop by Islands Hospital which would be around the top of the next hour (e.g. 9:08 gets there at 10). Getting back to ferry dock isn’t as easy, so find a ride when the meeting breaks up.
